Den 26 – 28 augusti bjuder Segelsällskapet Vikingarna in till SM i OK-jolle och Finnjolle. Segelsällskapets utgångsläge är i södra Kalmar med kort utsegling till Kalmarsund och nära till banområdet. Det finns boendemöjligheter på en camping bara några hundra meter från hamnen, eller på hotell inne i centrum.
Segelsällskapet Vikingarna ligger på Stensö udde, ett gammalt fiskeläge med charmiga gamla fiskestugor, multiarena, populär badstrand med hopptorn och Kalmarsund precis utanför piren. Precis intill fiskeläget ligger Stensö som är en halvö med motionsslingor, grillplatser, camping och höghöjdsbana. Här gick Gustav Vasa iland på 1500-talet efter att ha flytt danskt fångenskap. Kanalen mellan Stensö och fastlandet är grävd för hand och användes för att transportera båtar till andra sidan Stensö utan att behöva runda halvön. På andra sidan Stensö finns Vikingarnas klubbholme med bryggor, enkelt klubbhus, grill- och badplatser. Till klubbholmen tar man sig bara havsvägen, men använd sjökort det är en smal väg in till ön.
Medeltida Kalmar kan beskrivas som en mindre Lübeck eller Brügge, men på 1600-talet bestämdes det att staden skulle flyttas till där den ligger idag. I Gamla stan söder om centrum finns många byggnader bevarade från 1700- och 1800-talet. Gamla staden angränsar till Slottsparken som funnits där sedan 1800-talet och där även Slottet som funnits här sedan 1100-talet. Slottet stoltserar tydligt från havet men utgör också Kalmars otroligt vackra horisont från land. Kalmar slott är öppet för allmänheten mot entréavgift. Där går att få guidade turer och i sommar står slottet även värd för utställningen om den äventyrliga och normutmanande journalisten Ester Blenda, som i början på 1900-talet gjorde sig känd som Sveriges första undersökande reporter.
I slottsparken finns Kalmar konstmuseum, och ett promenadstråk som går att följa till andra sidan viken. Där finns en liten mysig gästhamn som i rätt vindar går snabbt att nå från Stensö. Mitt emot gästhamnen finns Kalmars universitet, Linnéuniversitetet och ännu en gästhamn mitt i centrum, nära till shopping, restauranger, caféer och hotell. Kalmar centrum omringas av en mur som uppfördes på 1600-talet för att skydda staden. En promenad längs den historiska muren tar ungefär en timme.
Från Kalmar tar det bara några minuter till Öland över bron, men det finns också en liten färja att åka med från centrala Kalmar. På Öland finns fina sandstränder, hantverk, historia, mysiga caféer och det unika Alvaret, ett naturområde som inte går att återfinna någon annanstans i Sverige.

The Vikingarna sailing club invites you to the Swedish mastership for Finn- and OK-dinghy on August 26th to 28th, this year. The Vikingarna is located in the south of Kalmar with the sea just on the other side of the pier and offers a short sail to the race area. For accommodation there is a camping site only a few hundred meters from the harbour, with the possibility to rent a cottage or a place for your caravan, there are also several hotels in Kalmar city.
The Vikingarna sailing club is located on Stensö Udde, an old fishing village with charming fishing cottages, a multi arena and popular beaches. Just around the corner is the peninsula Stensö, which offers tracks for exercise or walks, cozy barbecue areas, a camping site and an adventure park with a high rope course. This is also where Gustav Vasa, a Swedish king in the 16th century, is said to have come ashore after escaping Danish captivity. The canal between Stensö and the mainland was dug by hand to allow transport from one side of the peninsula to the other without having to round it. On the other side of Stensö is an island where Vikingarna has a simple space for get togethers The island also has barbecue areas, piers and bathing possibilities. You’ll need to go by boat to the island, use a chart since the path is narrow.
Kalmar in the Middle Ages could be described as a small Lübeck or Brügge. But in the 17th century it was decided to move the city to Kvarnholmen, where it remains to this day. South of Kvarnholmen is the old town, where you can see 18th and 19th century houses. This part of Kalmar adjoins the Castle park which has been there since the 19th century. Kalmar castle, built in the 12th century, is a landmark which proudly decorates Kalmars horizon and is seen both from the sea and the city. Anyone can visit the castle for an entry fee. They have guided tours and this summer they are the host of the Ester Blenda exhibit. Ester Blenda was an adventurous Swedish woman and journalist, who is known as the first Swedish investigative reporter.
The castle park has an art museum and a promenade along the water. Across the bay from the castle is a small and charming guest harbor, to which you can easily sail to from Stensö when the winds are good. Across the street from the guest harbor is the Linnaeus University and a larger guest harbor, close to shopping, restaurants, coffee shops and hotels. The city center is surrounded by the old city wall, which was built in the 17th century to protect Kalmar.
A trip to Öland is only 15 minutes away via bridge, but you can also take the ferry. At Öland you have lovely beaches, craftsmanship, history, cozy cafés and Alvaret: a unique world heritage site with no match in all of Sweden.
